Choosing Beds and Bedroom Furniture to Create the Perfect Night’s Sleep

A bed is the most used, biggest and probably the most important piece of furniture you’ll own. After an interrupted night’s sleep caused by a poor bed, you’ll feel under the weather and grumpy. A good bed that’s provided nocturnal comfort and support will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

The main aspect of a bed is its size. Double beds are large items, & of course king sized beds & super king beds even more so. They dominate a small space, so it’s important that your bed is attractive and stylish as well as being a joy to lie in. In that most personal of rooms, the bedroom, nobody wants a huge eyesore.

When you choose a new double bed, it’s imperative that you and your partner try the bed at the same time. You’ll both need room to stretch out, and bear in mind that in order to have the minimum of comfort, a bed should be six to nine inches longer than its tallest occupant. Super king beds are becoming more popular, but they’re really only for large rooms. You should always opt for the biggest bed you can, within style and space constraints. We each spend a third of each 24 hours in bed, so issues of comfort as well as design must figure very highly in your choice.

If you’re thinking of getting a new bed, try and bear the following in mind:

-do you do a lot of reading or or watch a lot of television in bed? If so, you might want to think about a bed that is adjustable, so you can raise your back and head to be more comfortable

-if space in the bedroom is at a premium, consider storage solutions built into the bed. Be warned though that some in-bed storage isn’t suitable for every day use

-dust mite allergies can be helped, if not entirely cured, by choosing alternative mattress and pillow fillings such as polyester or latex

-if your partner differs from you in terms of their taste in mattress firmness or feel, consider twin beds, or double/king (or even super king) beds that are made up of two different mattresses joined together.

Although bedroom furniture figures highly in the overall shape and feel of your bedroom design, it will be the bed itself that has the most important role in the presentation of the room’s style. After a car, it’s probably the biggest thing you’ll own, so it will have an impact!

When choosing bedroom furniture, it will be worth asking yourself some of the following:

-do you want to give the room a second focal point, such as an armchair, a sofa or even a small table where breakfast can be taken?

-what are you going to do with bedroom objects such as hairbrushes, magazines and books?

-will you opt for a fitted wardrobe, or separate cupboards?

-will shelving be inside cupboards or wardrobes, or will it be standalone?

-if you often eat breakfast in bed, where will you put the tray?

-where’s the best place to store items that don’t get a lot of use, such as suitcases?

Once you have thought of the practical considerations then it’s time to get started on creating a bedroom that has plenty of storage to enable your bedroom to stay a fresh, uncluttered haven. Buy the best bed for your room that you budget will allow, & look forward to getting plenty of refreshing sleep!
